PennyGuard AI Assistant: What You Can Ask About Your Transactions

A transaction question usually starts with something specific: a merchant name you do not recognize, a subscription you no longer use, or a purchase that might have a card benefit. PennyGuard’s AI assistant handles text questions about those charges, using the same connected information that supports its transaction review. You can ask what a charge is, which subscriptions to review, or what card perk may apply.

The suggested prompts below illustrate how to frame a question, not recorded conversations or verified assistant responses. Their purpose is to connect your intention with the relevant transaction and keep any decision to act in your hands.

    ## Start with one transaction and one intention

The assistant answers from bank and email data used by PennyGuard to find subscriptions and charges. That makes a specific transaction a useful starting point. Rather than asking a broad question about your entire financial life, identify the payment and explain what you want to understand.

As an editorial suggestion, include the merchant description, the date, and the amount when those details help distinguish the charge. Then add your intention: identify it, understand whether it repeats, explore a card benefit, or consider an available action. These are suggestions for clear wording, not required input fields or a documented prompt formula.

For example, if you are retired and check each statement against a fixed monthly deposit, “What is this charge from the merchant shown on my latest statement?” is more focused than “Explain my spending.” If you already know the service, say so. Your question can move directly to whether you still want it instead of treating a familiar subscription as an unidentified payment.

The connected information matters, too. Do not assume the assistant has a complete picture of accounts or purchases outside the connections you establish.

    ## When you want to understand an unfamiliar charge

“What is this charge?” is one of the core questions the PennyGuard assistant handles. PennyGuard also detects unfamiliar charges and sends notifications about them, so this is a natural place to begin a transaction conversation.

    **Suggested prompts:**

    – “What is this charge on my connected account?”

    – “Does this payment appear to be a recurring subscription?”

Useful context is what you recognize and what you do not. You might recognize the amount but not the merchant description, or remember starting a service without remembering its billing name. State that uncertainty rather than supplying an explanation you have not confirmed.

Keep identification separate from action. Understanding a payment does not automatically mean you want to cancel a service or request a refund. First establish what you are reviewing; then decide whether another step is relevant.

An unfamiliar description alone also does not establish that a payment was unauthorized. The assistant’s role is to help with the transaction information, not to turn an uncertain label into a guaranteed conclusion about what happened.

    ## When you want to decide which subscriptions to review

PennyGuard’s subscription search covers recurring charges, and the assistant’s example questions include what to cancel. A practical way to approach that question is to pair the detected payments with your own knowledge of which services you still use.

    **Suggested prompts:**

    – “Which recurring subscriptions should I review?”

    – “I no longer use this service. What cancellation option is available?”

The first question is about inspection. The second brings a decision you have already considered. Neither requires you to treat every recurring payment as unnecessary. A subscription can be regular and still be valuable to you.

Useful context includes whether you still use the service and whether you want information only or are considering cancellation. You know the role a subscription plays in your life; a transaction record alone should not make that choice for you.

PennyGuard handles cancellation requests through an AI agent, email, or a partner. The route and completion depend on the service. Asking about cancellation is therefore different from a completed cancellation, and the product’s confirmation requirement remains important before action proceeds.

    ## When you want to understand a change or upcoming renewal

PennyGuard provides detection and notices for subscription renewals, trial endings, price increases, and unfamiliar charges. Those events provide another useful question category: not simply what a payment is, but what you should examine before deciding whether to keep it.

    **Suggested prompts:**

    – “This recurring charge is higher than I expected. What should I review?”

    – “I received a renewal notice for this subscription. What are my options?”

Here, useful context is the change you noticed or the notice you received. If you are comparing an earlier charge with a later one, identify both in your question. This is a suggestion for making your concern clear, not a promise of a particular comparison report or answer format.

A renewal or trial-ending notice concerns the other service you are reviewing. It does not by itself tell you whether continuing is worthwhile. Use the notice as a reason to check your preference, the relevant terms, and whether you want to explore cancellation before another billing period.

    ## When you want to explore a card benefit

PennyGuard’s transaction-focused view displays cashback or perks associated with your card. “What perk is available here?” is another question the assistant is built to answer.

    **Suggested prompts:**

    – “What card perk may apply to this transaction?”

    – “Is there a cashback benefit associated with this purchase on my card?”

The important context is the transaction and the card involved. Keep the question tied to that purchase rather than assuming a benefit attached to one card applies to every card or payment.

There are two separate things to understand: a benefit being identified and a benefit actually being received. PennyGuard presents the former as part of the transaction experience. Cashback eligibility, applicable conditions, and fulfillment are governed by the bank or card network, not guaranteed by the assistant’s answer.

This makes benefit questions useful for exploration without treating a displayed opportunity as money already earned. Before counting a benefit toward your spending plans, distinguish what has been shown from what has actually been fulfilled.

    ## When you want to explore paying less or requesting a refund

Some transaction questions are about a possible next step. PennyGuard offers merchant refund requests and bill negotiation through a partner, alongside subscription cancellation. Your wording can make clear which path you want to explore.

    **Suggested prompts:**

    – “Can I explore a refund request for this merchant charge?”

    – “Is a bill negotiation option available for this recurring bill?”

Provide the reason for your question in plain language. For a refund, explain the issue you want the merchant to consider. For a bill, identify the recurring payment you want to review. These are suggested ways to express intent, not promises that chat accepts every request or replaces every step in the action process.

A refund request is not merchant approval or payment. Similarly, a negotiation request is not an agreed discount. Bill negotiation carries a separate fee, and the applicable terms should be understood before proceeding. The value of the question is in clarifying a possible route, not guaranteeing a financial result.

    ## Keep the boundary between asking and confirming

The defining limit in PennyGuard’s approach is that nothing is actioned without your confirmation. The product finds opportunities and prepares actions; you decide whether to proceed. A question about a subscription should not be treated as blanket permission to cancel it.

A useful sequence is to identify the transaction, ask the relevant question, review the possible next step, and confirm only the action you want. Afterward, distinguish the request from its eventual result. Cancellation timing depends on the service, and external decisions remain outside PennyGuard’s control.

The assistant is text-based; voice is a later plan. It also does not turn PennyGuard into a bank: the product does not hold or transfer money, pay bills, or open financial products for you.

For your own transaction review, start smaller: one payment, one clear question, and one decision at a time. That keeps the conversation focused on understanding what you are paying for and choosing whether an available action fits your needs.
